Instructions for PlayStation game controllers and Xbox game controllers are available, but the general steps are the same for all Bluetooth game controllers that can be paired with a computer or mobile phone.
When you pair more than one controller that can be customized in this way, these settings include Buddy Controller. You can use the Buddy Controller feature to combine inputs from multiple controllers into one so that another person can support you in getting to the next level in your game.
Game Controller App For Mac
With the app installed and a gaming controller connected, the different keys on the controller can be mapped to various functions such as displaying the desktop, adjusting screen brightness, tweaking volume, controlling media playback, accessing Launch Pad, launching Mission Control, and more.
There's even an option to use the controller in lieu of a mouse with controls for moving the mouse pointer, clicking, right clicking, and scrolling. You can essentially set any function on the Mac to be performed with a click of a controller button, which is handy if you want an alternate input method. There's also an option to create custom shortcuts that can be launched with a controller.
Most wireless controllers should be able to work with Controlly after being paired via Bluetooth to a Mac. We tested with the PlayStation 4 DualShock controller and the app worked flawlessly, with the controller able to perform all of the appropriate mapped actions.
For instance, you can not only move the cursor using the analog sticks, but also set shortcuts to each joystick button. There are multiple options available, including brightness and media controls, Launchpad and Mission Control access, showing desktop, and changing volume. The app comes with some functions set by default for controllers, but users can change them at any time in the settings.
Rotor Riot is the only Lightning-connected, full-sized, mobile game controller available today. This means low latency, no pairing and, because the controller draws its power from the iOS device there no battery giving you the most complete console experience on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
The new Rotor Riot controller now has all-important "Home" and "Options" buttons to greatly enhance your experience when casting your console games to your iOS device. Services like the PlayStation Remote Play or Steam allow you to play any game, any place at any time. And now, with Apple Arcade, you can play so many games in so many places for so long.

After upgrading to macOS 13.0, the OS no longer responds to input from my DualSense controller. It used to work just fine before the upgrade. The controller does get detected by the OS and can be seen as connected in the controller settings pane. Clicking on the Identify button in the Game controllers settings pane does make the controller to vibrate. But it seems the OS either is not receiving input from the controller, or is not responding to them. Can you please confirm if this is a bug ? Is there anything I can do to get the controller working again ?
Hi, it used to work just fine on macOS 12.6. For example pressing the PS button used to open a Games folder, now it does nothing. I was also using the controller to play game on the Nvidia GeForce Now platform, now the controller doesn't even get detected. I don't believe I have a feedback report ID, how do I get one ?
Hi, I did test it again and still does not work. Here is the Feedback report ID: FB11745290. I did some testing with -tester.com/ and the input from controller does get detected on chrome, firefox and brave browser but NOT on Safari.
Hi, I did some more testing. I tried to use the controller with the RPCS3 emulator and it works fine. But when I tried to play Asphalt 9 that I downloaded from the app store, the controller does get recognized as connected and I can see the controller settings in the game, but when I try to use the controller to play the game nothing happens. The input gets ignored or something
After connecting, you should be good to go. Any game that supports gamepads should work with the device you connected, or at the very least offer the controller as an option in its settings. I tried this with a few indie games and was delighted.
The ASTRO C40 TR Configuration Software is specifically designed for use with the ASTRO C40 TR Controller and enables full configuration of the controller's adjustable settings. The software will not detect any other ASTRO Gaming products, and the C40 TR Controller is not compatible with the ASTRO Command Center.
This can be especially helpful when, for example, streaming your favorite TV show from a Mac to your telly in the living room via AirPlay but couldn't be bothered to get up and sit in front of the computer just to select another show. Controlly lets you use the controller that came with your Sony or Microsoft gaming console as a remote control for your Mac.
You get the ability to control not just mouse movement but also assign system features like Mission Control, App Exposé, and more to hardware buttons. Certain MFi (Made for iOS) controllers may also work with Controlly after being paired via Bluetooth to a Mac computer.
Key-mapping tools allow users to map each button on the controller to one letter or number key. That is good for gaming, but not enough for a general purpose controller for the Mac. Besides that, these key mapping tools do not support keyboard shortcuts and their user interface could be more visual in my opinion.
Not many of us know it, but there could be a handy use for all those old Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers. But before you get set up, you need to have the correct hardware installed on your Mac to enable connectivity.
First of all, you will need either a wired or wireless Xbox controller. Both work fine, but for all those passionate gamers with a tendency to erupt, a wireless device would be best to save any damage to wires (or opponents). These wireless receivers can be bought for around $20 on Amazon and handle up to 4 Xbox 360 controllers.
Next, we move on to the Xbox One controller. This section is going to encompass the generic Xbox One controller, as well as the specialty Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers. These can be connected to your Mac using the same cable as the PS4 using the same method from the above section, Connecting a PlayStation 3/4/5 controller with a cable.
You can also connect a controller to Mac if your Xbox One controller has Bluetooth support. I learned the hard way that not all Xbox One controllers have Bluetooth support. Only the 1708 model does. You can check which model you have by opening the battery compartment on the underside of your controller and reading the MODEL XXXX portion.
Once it starts blinking, return to your Mac and you should see it in the Bluetooth menu. Click the Connect button next to it. After a few seconds, the controller should pair to your Mac. You can now use it with gaming apps on your Mac.
While the Steam Controller can be used wirelessly, it needs to be plugged into work on Mac. Go ahead and remove the batteries from your controller and plug it into your Mac using a USB C to micro USB cable.
This is pretty easy to do in Steam. First, open Steam, enable Big Picture mode, click Settings, then Controller Settings, then place a check next to the controller(s) you want to use with Steam.
Multiple controllers can even be used at the same time. Perfect for two player games that use opposite sides of the keyboard or for controllers such as the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons that use a left and right controller for each hand.
Just press the button on your game controller, and then press a button on your keyboard or select one of the available mouse actions. No need to use special mouse locking options or switch into different mouse modes like other apps make you do.
For the first time, the 'It just works' philosophy now extends to open source video game emulation on the Mac. With OpenEmu, it is extremely easy to add, browse, organize and with a compatible gamepad, play those favorite games (ROMs) you already own.
We combine some of the best emulation projects together into one beautiful unified application that simply organizes your personal games library. Watch as you drop in backups of your games (ROMs) & they are gracefully added to their appropriate library along with original box art!
Of the game controllers available for home computers, only a few are officially supported on the Mac, but you can often get others, like those for the PS3, Wii, or Xbox, working just fine. To use any of these controllers with your system, you will first need to connect it to your system physically, and then install a driver package to make use of the controller's inputs.
For factory-supported devices like the Logitech F310 Gamepad and the Belkin Nostromo SpeedPad, drivers are available from their manufacturers; however, for unsupported devices like Wii Remote, PS3, and Xbox controllers, you will have to use a third-party driver package.
The easiest of these unsupported remotes to configure is likely the Xbox controller, which can be (physically) connected directly via USB or with a relatively cheap receiver for wireless Xbox controllers. If you have a PS3 controller, you'll need to follow a quick procedure to establish a connection to your Mac. First, connect the controller to your Mac, and then open the Bluetooth system preferences and make sure Bluetooth is both on and discoverable. Next, hold the PS button on the controller for a few seconds, then unplug the USB cable, and the controller should appear in the Bluetooth system preferences and be available for use in a number of games and programs. A Wii Remote can also be connected via Bluetooth. 2ff7e9595c
